Gerald Oswald studied trumpet at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz and has been teaching at the Erzherzog Johann Music School in Stainz since 1997. From 2001 to 2002, he completed a course in wind band conducting with Prof. Franz Cibulka, followed by advanced studies in composition and arranging with Thomas Doss (2004–2011).

Between 2005 and 2008, Oswald completed his studies in wind band conducting at the Vienna Conservatory Private University. In 2012, he undertook and completed further studies in wind band conducting at the Monteverdi Conservatory in Bolzano with Thomas Doss. Workshops with, among others, Patrick Jones, Jan Van der Roost, Felix Hauswirth, Jan Cober, and Douglas Bostock further complemented his artistic training.

He regularly serves as a juror at competitions such as Prima la Musica, Musik in kleinen Gruppen, youth wind band competitions, and concert evaluations, and has been involved in the conductor training program of the Styrian Wind Music Association since 2010.

Today, Gerald Oswald is an internationally performed and in-demand composer whose works are played well beyond Austria. His compositions have been published by Symphonic Dimensions Publishing since 2023.
