Inspired by the success of Jacques Offenbach's operettas in Vienna, Franz von Suppé (1819-1895) began composing his first stage works in 1860. His comic opera "Isabella," from 1869, premiered in Vienna. The overture features both Spanish and Viennese melodies. Although Suppé's music doesn't always have the typical Viennese sound, his overtures, such as "Dichter und Bauer" and "Lichte Kavallerie," secured him a permanent place in concert halls.
