Collection: Nico Samitz
Nico Samitz, born in Villach (Carinthia), began studying trumpet at the Mozarteum Salzburg in 2012 with Hans Gansch and Andreas Öttl. During his studies, he gained formative orchestral experience, including with the Vienna Jeunesse Orchestra, the European Union Youth Orchestra, Camerata Salzburg, and as a member of the Andechser ORFF Academy of the Munich Radio Orchestra. Since 2024, he has been a trumpeter with the Bavarian State Orchestra.
Samitz has been devoted to composing chamber music since his school years. For more than fifteen years, he has written works in a wide variety of styles for the ensemble BlechReiz Brass Quintet, in which he himself plays the trumpet. In addition, he composes and arranges for brass ensembles of all kinds—from tuba trio to brass band—as well as for symphonic wind orchestra. His stylistic spectrum ranges from classical harmony through jazz to subtle echoes of Austrian folk music, and even the occasional elements of popular schlager music.
During his studies at the Mozarteum, Samitz refined his skills in harmony and ear training; as an orchestral musician at the Bavarian State Opera, he continually finds inspiration in the diverse sound worlds of great opera composers. His driving force is the passion to musically express what can only be conveyed with difficulty in words.
Since 2022, Nico Samitz has been composing for Symphonic Dimensions Publishing.
