Nico Samitz has been composing chamber music since his school days. For over ten years, he has been writing works in a wide variety of genres for the BlechReiz BrassQuintett ensemble, in which he plays trumpet and piano. His musical repertoire ranges from classical works to jazz compositions, meditative music, and even pop music.

During his studies at the Mozarteum Salzburg, he refined his knowledge of composition and ear training. As a trumpeter, he also gained formative experience with the Munich Symphony Orchestra, the Munich Philharmonic, and the Bavarian State Opera – encounters with a multitude of works that have had a lasting influence on his compositional style.

The driving forces behind his creative work are passion, joy in music and the desire to communicate through sounds and express feelings that are difficult to put into words.

With "The Joy of Freedom," Samitz composed—like many of his works—a piece specifically for the BlechReiz Brass Quintet. The catchy melody runs through the entire work, appearing in various stylistic forms, thus achieving an unmistakable earworm quality .
