Collection: Peter Knockaert
Peter Knockaert (*1980) studied classical guitar and composition at the Royal Conservatory of Antwerp and was trained by renowned guitar masters such as Alberto Ponce, Marco Socias, Eduardo Isaac, Roland Broux, Yves Storms, and Pavel Steidl. As a prizewinner of several competitions and a member of the guitar trio Quadrant, he has performed nationally and internationally, and released the album Viaje al Sur featuring his own works for the broadcaster Klara.
As a composer, Knockaert is exceptionally versatile. His output includes children’s songs, musicals, solo and chamber music, as well as works for symphony orchestra, wind orchestra, brass band, and fanfare ensembles, in addition to music for film, television, and theatre. He also produces pop, electronic, and dance music.
In 2021, he received a commission to develop an innovative project that culminated in his first symphony, The Wind Symphony, whose musical material is based on data from wind turbines. The world premiere took place in 2023 on the International Day of the Wind, followed by another performance in 2025 on the banks of the River Scheldt.
Since beginning his collaboration with Symphonic Dimensions Publishing in 2023, his music has gained increasing international attention and reach. Knockaert has since been invited more frequently by orchestras and wind bands to lead workshops and has worked for over 20 years with numerous ensembles and production companies, including Casco Phil, Hermes Ensemble, Anima Eterna, the Brussels Symphonic Orchestra, the International Opera Academy, and Studio100.
Since 2013, he has been teaching music notation at the Royal Conservatory of Antwerp.
