This overture was originally conceived as the opening piece for the Wind Symphony , which consists of four parts and represents the four ancient deities of the cardinal directions.
In Greek mythology, Aeolus was the guardian of the winds and king of the mythical island of Aeolia. He controlled the north wind ( Boreas ), the west wind ( Zephyrus ), the east wind ( Euros ), and the south wind ( Notos ). Aeolus, son of the sea god Poseidon, was famous for his power over the winds and his ability to unleash storms.
This composition is ideal as a ceremonial opening for any concert.
