The symphonic suite "The Boys from Paul Street" is based on the soundtrack to the German-language film adaptation of the novel of the same name by Ferenc Molnár. The Hungarian author's work was published in 1910 and remains one of Central Europe's most important young adult novels. Molnár is considered one of Hungary's most influential playwrights of the 20th century.

The novel was adapted for television in 2004. Otto M. Schwarz composed the music for the 90-minute German-language version of the film. His score takes up central themes from the original—friendship, loyalty, loss, and childhood—and translates them into a moving, melodically concise soundscape.
