Schola Vitae - Concert Band Set

Schola Vitae - Concert Band Set

Schola Vitae is an approximately eight-minute piece dedicated to Paul Scholer, the former director of the UGDA music school in Luxembourg. It conveys the message that learning and playing music is a true school for life.

The work begins with familiar scales that ascend and descend in various keys, blending seamlessly into one another. Then, the most important tool for every musician appears: the metronome. It sets the tempo while the sections practice their themes individually or against each other.

But music means far more than technique and precision – it thrives on emotions. It connects people, creates friendships, and accompanies them through life's ups and downs. This sense of togetherness becomes increasingly palpable as the piece progresses: In the end, all the voices work together to achieve great things.

The composer, Georges Sadeler (born 1988), is a saxophonist in the Grand Ducal Military Orchestra of Luxembourg. Even as a child, he watched his father arrange music, but it wasn't until many years later, through his professors Marco Pütz and Claude Lenners at the Luxembourg Conservatory, that he began composing his own music. Step by step, he developed a distinctive style characterized by the fusion of contemporary and classical music.

In the following years, Sadeler won six national and international composition competitions, and his works have since been performed throughout Europe.
