Phenomenon – a musical phenomenon
"Phenomenon" is a fascinating work for symphonic wind orchestra, emerging from a single melodic motif. This motif—a play of ascending and descending intervals (fourth, sixth, fifth, second)—is introduced in the horn solo and dominates the entire composition. It is noteworthy that the numerical sequence of these intervals (4-6-5-2) corresponds exactly to the postal code of the Upper Austrian town of Steinerkirchen .
In "Phenomenon," this simple motif is transformed into a multifaceted sonic journey through different musical genres and moods. The work was commissioned by the Steinerkirchen Music Association in 2022 for the state competition at performance level E and is dedicated to this orchestra. Under the direction of Roland Kastner and with the organizational commitment of Michael and Hubert Ecklbauer, an extraordinary "phenomenon" emerged: an ensemble of young and experienced musicians who, through passion, ambition, and a sense of community, consistently achieve top performances.
Thus, “Phenomenon” is not only a composition, but also a musical monument to the power of music – and to the people who bring it to life.
