Mont Blanc – the majestic roof of Europe

For centuries, it has captivated adventurers, scientists, and dreamers: Mont Blanc , at 4,808 meters the highest peak in Europe. For a long time, the world's great mountains were considered unconquerable – but in the last 250 years, courageous pioneers have dared to ascend the icy titans of our planet. In 1786, the crystal hunter Jacques Balmat and the physician Michel-Gabriel Paccard finally succeeded in conquering Mont Blanc for the first time.

Several routes lead to its summit, but the classic route follows the impressive "voie royale," the royal path of Saint-Gervais-les-Bains. The Englishmen Hudson, Kennedy, and Smythe first climbed it in 1855, and a few years later – in 1861 – the standard route, as it exists today, via the Aiguille du Goûter, Dôme du Goûter, and the exposed Bosses ridge, was first ascended. This line remains a dream destination for many mountaineers.

Inspired by the glittering glaciers and the sublime silence of the high mountains, Otto M. Schwarz crafted an impressive musical journey from this backdrop. He recounts the early departure of the mountaineers, the first light of day, and the dangers the mountain holds – from blizzards to falling rocks on the Bosses ridge.

The result is a vivid, atmospheric composition that invites you on an imaginary tour along the "voie royale" – all the way up to the magnificent summit of Mont Blanc.
