The Spirit of Winnipeg – Soundscapes of a New Era
During the last Ice Age, glacial Lake Agassiz, the world's largest lake, formed, stretching across large parts of Canada and the United States. Numerous lakes emerged from this vast basin—including Lake Winnipeg.
The composition opens with a sound language that evokes the slow melting of the ice: drop by drop, the end of the Ice Age announces itself. Gradually, nature awakens, Canada's vegetation blooms again, and the first rays of sunlight of a new era reflect in the majestic waters.
With the revival of life, the culture of the indigenous peoples also resonates: their sun dance, horseback riding across the prairie, and hunting characterize the atmosphere of the music. The piece concludes with a musical homage to shimmering Lake Winnipeg and its indigenous inhabitants—a resonant celebration of nature, history, and spiritual connection.
