Juvavum Fanfare - Concert Band Score

Juvavum Fanfare – a tribute to Salzburg

The Juvavum Fanfare was composed especially for the final concert of the first part-time university course in wind orchestra conducting at the renowned Mozarteum Salzburg, which ran for the first time from 2019 to 2021. This festive opening composition is dedicated to the highly esteemed course leader and conductor Martin Fuchsberger and to all graduates who have successfully completed this course.

The title "Juvavum" refers to the ancient Roman name of the city of Salzburg. This close connection is evident not only in the premiere at the Mozarteum, but also in the musical design of the work. The opening with radiant fanfares and the lyrical middle section hark back to Salzburg's state anthem, "Land unser'rer Väter." The first intervals of the anthem are already audible in the solemn fanfare sounds, before the melodic theme is directly quoted from bar 27. In the rousing final section, the fanfare motifs and the hymn lines finally merge into a powerful, festive finale.

The Juvavum Fanfare is a work ideally suited to the ceremonial opening of concerts. With its concise length, clear dramaturgy, and solemn character, it offers musicians and audience alike an entertaining yet dignified experience.
