Stratosphere – a musical high-flyer for Brass Band
What do American Joseph Kittinger and Austrian Felix Baumgartner have in common? Both dared to jump from over 30 kilometers up – from the stratosphere back to Earth. While Kittinger jumped from "only" 31,333 meters on August 16, 1960, Baumgartner set a new historical record of 38,969 meters on October 14, 2012.
Stratosphere by Otto M. Schwarz musically retraces this extraordinary adventure: the slow ascent of the capsule under the enormous balloon, the brief hovering in the stratosphere, the daring jump, the turbulences of the free fall, and finally the opening of the parachute – right up to the safe landing.
A captivating work for Brass Band that impressively makes the tension, vastness, and breathtaking drama of this record-breaking jump audible.
