"Rising into a New Era" was composed in 2023 on behalf of the town of Landeck to celebrate its 100th anniversary. The work forms the introductory part of a trilogy and spans the musical period from 1923 to 1956—a time in which Landeck found its way from market to town.
The work begins with a reserved, quiet atmosphere, reflecting the initial uncertainty in a period of economic challenges. The mere ringing of the new city bells testifies to the optimism for an imminent new beginning.
The central motif that runs through the entire work is derived from the city's name: LANDECk (A–D–E–C) . This motif is heard at the beginning in the ringing of the bells before being gently developed into the main theme by the clarinets.
After the young city's early years, in which a second musical theme symbolizes positive social change and a new sense of security, the sudden outbreak of World War II interrupts the upswing. A melancholic melody, borrowed from the previously cheerful second theme, expresses sadness, wistfulness, but also consolation and hope for peace and freedom.
A "Vivace furioso" captures the turmoil of war, which eventually calms down and culminates in a delicate oboe and saxophone solo. From this, the now powerful main theme rises in the form of a majestic chorale.
A final “Vivace con bravura” brings the work to a radiant end and points to the strengthening future of the town of Landeck.
