This composition by José Luis Peiró Reig is inspired by the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela in Spain. Each musical section reflects a part of the impressive edifice:
A solemn introduction represents the majestic Fachada del Obradoiro, followed by a romantic melody as a song to the Apostle Santiago. The horns take over an elegant melody in the Pórtico de la Gloria, symbolizing the three arches – Old Testament, Apocalypse, and Last Judgment.
The Botafumeiro is musically depicted through an organ imitation and the theme of the Apostle. The Puerta Santa describes the symbolic opening of the Holy Door at the beginning of a Holy Year.
The piece concludes with the Fiesta de Santiago: After a brief quote from the Alborada Gallega, a lively Muiñeira, a traditional Galician dance, unfolds, culminating in a monumental and solemn finale, characterized by a brilliant brass melody and majestic bell sounds.
