Last Call was commissioned by Thomas Beiganz , manager of the Brass Band Upper Austria , from Otto M. Schwarz . Since there are few works in the modern, pop-funk style, this was already the second composition of this kind commissioned by the band under the direction of Hannes Buchegger —now also available in a fanfare band version .

The piece was conceived as a final number in which all sections of the fanfare band can once again show off their full talent.

A fanfare-like introduction is followed by a catchy chorus , which is imaginatively varied as it progresses – carried by a concise , funky rhythm .

The title "Last Call" refers not only to the final musical climax of the concert, but also—with a wink—to the well-known "Last Call" : the final call to boarding. Thus, the work becomes both a musical conclusion and a starting point for the next performance.
