Devotional Yodeling - Percussion Ensemble

Devotional Yodeling - Percussion Ensemble

The devotional yodel originated around 1800 in South Tyrol and is liturgically associated with Christmas Mass. Rediscovered around 1930, it has gained increasing popularity ever since, regularly sung and sung by participants and audience at the conclusion of the Salzburg Advent singing festival.

Florian Klinger arranged this vocal work for percussion instruments, gradually transforming the melody into a pulsating groove without losing the devotional mood.

The instrumentation includes classical percussion instruments as well as ORFF instruments such as an alto glockenspiel, and includes individual parts ranging from challenging to easy. The minimum ensemble size is five, but can be expanded to nine players.

The bass marimba part can optionally be played on an A marimba. Both marimba parts can also be played on a piano.
